If you ride a speed pedelec on public roads, you must follow the traffic rules for mopeds.

Traffic signs and rules

  • Road signs

Look out for traffic signs with the symbol of a moped and the letter P (speed pedelec). These are valid for speed pedelecs.

  • Driving on the cycle path

    • When the maximum permitted speed on the road is 50 km/h, you can choose where to cycle.

    • When the maximum permitted speed on the road exceeds 50 km/h, it is compulsory to ride on the cycle path.

    • On the towpath, the maximum speed limit for a speed pedelec is set at 30 km/h because there are many pedestrians here.
